What Is a Village
Who Is Eligible

What is a Village?

Villages are nonprofit, grassroots, membership organizations that are redefining aging by being a key resource to community members wishing to age in place. Villages are social support networks for members that provide:

  • Resources to help people age with purpose and vitality through learning, planning, and serving.
  • Community engagement activities.
  • Other important resources that are crucial to aging interdependently.

A Village reflects the community it serves and transforms the “Silver Tsunami” of aging baby boomers into a “silver reservoir” that grows and strengthens its community.

Who is eligible to join?

Anyone 50+ is welcome to apply for membership to join the Village!

How does membership work?

Members pay a single annual fee to access services, resources, and social opportunities. Members request services by phone, email, or on the website, and a volunteer will respond. We ask for at least two business days’ notice to arrange volunteer services for our Full-Service members. Volunteers are matched with members based on skills and availability.

Social programs and other activities are announced to members by email and on the website, both on the home page and the full calendar page. We maintain a dedicated phone line so you can reach a live person during normal business hours or leave a message and someone will respond as soon as possible.

How Membership Works

What are the benefits of joining VillagesOKC?

  • Member-inspired social, cultural, and informational programs and member-inspired interest groups to build friendships and foster life-long learning.
  • Volunteer opportunities.
  • Volunteer assistance for Full-Service Members.

Why do members pay a fee?

Member fees support the infrastructure that enables us to run the organization efficiently and communicate with our members, volunteers, and the general public. Although we are an all-volunteer organization, our fixed costs include insurance, volunteer background checks, marketing materials, and a dynamic website for communication and volunteer matching.

We supplement fees with donations and sponsorships to pay for a share of our costs so we can keep our membership fees low.

Can I buy a membership for my parents, or make a membership donation?

Absolutely! Gift memberships are a great idea, whether it’s for a family member or a neighbor. We also work with community members who can’t quite afford the yearly fee, and all donations are greatly appreciated.
